About Nagpur City

The name of the city is derived from the river "Nag" which flows through the city. "Nag" means snake, in Hindi Language. Hindi is the most spoken language in Nagpur. Nagpur is situated in the geographical centre of India.

Nagpur is known for it Oranges and hence also known as "Orange City". Recently Nagpur Celebrated 300 years of establishment.

Politically, Nagpur is in the State Maharashtra; the most developed state in Maharashtra. Nagpur is in the Vidharba district, which forms the eastern side of Maharashtra. Nagpur is also the second capital of Maharashtra state. The Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly holds its Winter Session at Nagpur in the month of December at which time the entire political community of Maharashtra descends on Nagpur for the two week duration of the session.

Nagpur city is the 13th largest urban conglomeration in India and is situated at an altitude of 900 to 1000 feet above the sea level and spread in an area of 220 square kilometers.

Most of the time of the year, the weather is quite pleasant; except during the summer months March to June.
